A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), has called on the current president of the association to call out lawyers that breach rules of ethics of the profession by turning the media into a court of law over President Bola Tinubu’s alleged certificate forgery.
Presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the last elections, Atiku Abubakar, has been challenging Tinubu’s victory at the February 25 poll and the verdict of the election tribunal upholding the outcome of the vote.
Atiku had alleged that Tinubu’s academic records were fraught with discrepancies and forgeries, as such, his request for the US court for the northern district of Illinois to compel Chicago State University (CSU) to release Tinubu’s academic records was subsequently granted.

Former attorney general of the federation and minister of Justice, Bayo Ojo, has paid glowing tribute to corporate lawyer, Christopher Oladipo Ogunbanjo, describing his death as huge loss.
He died on Sundays at the age of 99.
In a statement, yesterday, the former AGF said Ogunbanjo’s contributions to the development of corporate governance would forever be remembered in the legal profession.
According to him, Nigeria has lost a legal icon and boardroom arbitrator with a robust intellectual mind.
He added that Ogunbanjo was a legal colossus, giant among lawyers and easily one of the true giants of the profession in the mould of Rotimi Williams, H. A. Lardner, and Kehinde Sofola.

Dr Christopher Ogunbanjo touched many lives. He was a “quiet philanthropist”, as former President Olusegun Obasanjo described him.
It is therefore not surprising that many statesmen, stakeholders, and well-wishers have been showering encomium on him since his death on Saturday, a few months to his centenary birthday.
They described the late Ogunbanjo as a titan who left legacies in the corporate world as a lawyer.
While announcing his demise, his family said he was an “unwavering beacon of reassurance, courage, and moral integrity for the entire family, truly embodying dedication and service to his country.”

Spokesman of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Emmanuel Powerful, has said the group would be disbanded if the people vote against self-determination in a referendum.
According to him, when political and economic survival of the indigenous people are threatened, the United Nations charter gives them the right to chart their own political future in what she referred to as self-determination through a democratic process called referendum.
Powerful, who a few days ago issued a statement indicating readiness of IPOB to dialogue with the Nigerian government on the issue of referendum, however, stated that the group was not begging for it.
“We never begged for dialogue or discussion with Nigeria, the options are left for them to decide. IPOB worldwide is ready anytime they are ready; we don’t want people to see that statement as if we are begging for dialogue or discussion, the Biafra referendum is sacrosanct and nothing will stop it to usher in Biafra restoration and independence.
“We saw so many wrong comments from mostly those enemies from other tribes who think they can bring IPOB down. Some people think IPOB is hard to believe in peaceful dialogue and discussion.”
