The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has donated a Peugeot 406 car and 24 motorcycles
to selected Ulamas in Kebbi. Ibrahim Abubakar-Jombali, Publicity Secretary of Khadimiyya for Justice and Development Initiative, a non-governmental organisation, NGO, founded by the minister, made this known in a statement on Monday in Birnin Kebbi. Malami, in the statement, described Ulamas as critical stakeholders in ensuring peace and unity in the country.

The Lagos State Police Command has alerted the residents of the state of a plot by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to attack soft targets in the state. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Hakeem Odumosu, disclosed this in Lagos on Monday while delivering a paper on ‘Appraisal of Security Situation in Lagos State’, at a security meeting. The CP said the threat by the IPOB had been put on the radar of the command’s intelligence gathering and other security services in the state.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has said he will comply with the Supreme Court order that the dissolved local dissolved local government officials should be paid all their salaries and allowances. The dissolved council officials were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress during the tenure of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi. Makinde had announced their dissolution immediately he was inaugurated as the governor on May 29, 2019. The affected council officials went to the high court, appeal court and the apex court which ruled that they should be paid all their salaries and allowances from May 2019 to March 2022.

The minority caucus in the House of Representatives, yesterday, said it is alarmed by the alleged non-remittance of over N165 billion operating surplus by top officials of the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA). The PDP, in a statement by the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, charged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately commence the probe of suspended managing director of NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman. “Our Caucus holds that the mere suspension of the Managing Director of the NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman, and the resort to an administrative panel of enquiry, even after the report by the Supervising Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, exposed an unremited and possibly diverted operating surplus of N165 billion, amounts to romancing and perfuming corruption by the APC-led Federal Government.”

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has raised the alarm over the ‘shoot-on-sight’ order given to soldiers against dissenting Igbo youths, warning it was an order for another pogrom and genocide. President General of Ohanaeze, Prof. George Obiozor, in a statement, yesterday, admonished the Federal Government to refrain from the use of force in resolving national crisis. He also flayed the government for the pattern of deployment of northern military officers to the South-East saying it lends credence to the report of the shoot-on-sight order. In a statement issued yesterday in Enugu on his behalf by the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Alex Ogbonnia, the Ohanaeze President tasked the Federal Government to “learn a lesson from history by not fighting an unwinnable war against nationalism, but seek possible peaceful options that are the only solution that guarantees national unity and peaceful coexistence.”
