CCB SET TO CHARGE MAGU FOR FAILING TO DECLARE ACCOUNTS – PUNCH PG.3

The Code of Conduct Bureau is set to charge the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for failing to declare some accounts on his Asset Declaration form, Sunday PUNCH has learnt. The CCB had invited Magu via a letter with reference number CCB/HQ/II&M/007/2093 dated November 2, 2020.

He was asked to appear before the anti-corruption agency on November 17, 2020.The suspended EFCC boss was asked to come along with acknowledgment copies of all asset declaration forms since joining the public service as well as his payslips and land documents.

NIGERIAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICE BUILDS ESTATE FOR STAFF – DAILY TRUST PG.7

The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Ja’afaru Ahmed, said the organisation had commenced construction of housing estates for staff across the country.He disclosed this while speaking at the inauguration of the housing estate for staff at Lugbe, along airport road in Abuja, on Saturday. According to Ahmed, the project was part of the ongoing efforts to provide succour to the personnel of the NCoS. The estate comprises 160 plots, which have been distributed among interested staff, whose take-home pay could accommodate the required monthly deductions, the Comptroller-General stated.

The Coalition of Civil Society for Human Rights and Good Governance Africa (CCSHRGGA) has condemned a report by the Cable News Network (CNN) alleging massacre of #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos on October 20, 2020. The Coalition described the report as repulsive and a concocted piece of falsehood by an otherwise reputable international cable network.

The days of wanton trampling on civilian rights by men in uniform seems to be over, as Afeez Oluomo, a tricycle operator victim of an alleged military brutalisation is asking for the law to take its course. Omolola Afolabi reports. A Yam dealer and tricycle operator at Mile 12 Market in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos, Afeez Oluomo, 42, is calling on the police and Lagos State government to help serve justice over an alleged brutalisation and near-death experience with a captain of the Nigerian Army.

MAGU: N’DELTA GROUP DEMANDS PROPER VETTING FOR NEXT EFCC CHAIR – THIS DAY PG.67

A non-partisan group, the Global Forum for Accountability and Transparency, yesterday said that following the unpalatable exit of the suspended Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Mr Ibrahim Magu, the next head of the body must be properly vetted by the authorities. Convener of the Niger Delta group, Mr Joseph Ambakederimo, in a statement in Abuja, however insisted that the plan to remove the police as the head of the commission was suspicious, adding that rather, what the EFCC needs is a patriotic and fine officer with unimpeachable record of service.

ENDSARS PROTESTS: BRITISH PARLIAMENT TO SANCTION REQUEST AGAINST NIGERIA ON MONDAY – THIS DAY PG.68

The British Parliament has disclosed that it will consider a petition by some groups and individuals, asking that it should apply sanctions against the Nigerian Government and officials for alleged human rights violations during the #EndSARS protest and Lekki shooting incident. The parliament also claimed that the shooting of unarmed protesters at the Lekki Tollgate gave rise to the outbreak of violence and is waiting for the outcome of investigations by the federal and state governments into reports of police brutality and extra-judicial killings.
