ICPC HONOURS DPO FOR REJECTING N2M BRIBES – NATION PG.7

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has honoured the Itam Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Francis Erhabor, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), for rejecting N2 million bribes.

The commission’s Uyo Zonal Chairman, Mr. Shola Shodipe, presented the award to Erhabor. The ICPC chief said the awardee was carefully selected for his track record of integrity and honesty.

The suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, has faulted the Judicial Commission of Enquiry probing the activities of the agency for verifying seized assets without the presence of his lawyers or himself. He also said it was unfortunate that he closed his defence about two weeks ago without being granted opportunity by the panel to call any witness to strengthen his innocence.

For the 12th day running on Sunday, youths protesting police brutality especially by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), continued their activities across the country. Hundreds of them gathered at Alausa and Lekki in Lagos from morning.As at 11pm, the crowd of protesters at Lekki was huge – they stay put, singing, chanting and displaying their placards.

‘CROCODILE SMILE’ NOT TARGETED AT #ENDSARS PROTESTERS – ARMY – DAILY TRUST PG.4

The Nigerian Army has clarified that “Operation Crocodile Smile” is not targeted at #EndSARS protesters. Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Sagir Musa, made this known in a press statement on Sunday. The Nigerian Army had on Saturday announced that its Operation Crocodile Smile would hold between October 20 and December 31 nationwide.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu on Sunday confirmed that the new Police Tactical Team would commence training on Monday. Force spokesman Frank Mba, in a statement, said the IGP reiterated that no personnel of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad would be a member of the new team.

143 CASES OF RAPE, OTHERS REPORTED DURING COVID-19 LOCKDOWN – NAPTIP – DAILY TRUST PG.10

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons says 143 cases of incest, rape and other related violence against women and girls were reported to it during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. NAPTIP Director-General, Julie Okah-Donli, at a press conference in Abuja, said 40 cases of abuse and infidelity injury, 15 incest cases, 12 threats, seven abductions, 10 maltreatments 10 out-of-court settlements, four damage to property and 15 abandonment cases were reported.

A Special Envoy to the Government of Venezuela, Alex Nain Saab Morán, has urged West Africa’s regional court, the ECOWAS Court of Justice, to halt the plan to extradite him from Cape Verde to the United States of America. Morán, a dual Colombian and Venezuelan national, who has been in detention since his arrest by Cape Verde authorities four months ago, urged the court to suspend the extradition process as a precautionary measure pending the court’s decision on the merits of the matter.

The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on Sunday denied the involvement of the Federal Government in the reported arrest of #ENDSARS protesters in Cairo, Egypt. Some Nigerians protesting the brutality and extortion by police, particularly the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in their home country were dispersed at the Nigerian Embassy in Cairo and later arrested on Sunday.
