A group, No Alternative to Buhari/Osinbajo 2019 (NATBO 2019), has called on all Nigerians to support the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari. In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Vincent Uba, the group argued that efforts so far had shown the sincerity and commitment of the administration to the fight against corruption.

Against the backdrop of heightened concerns about security situation in the country, Governor Hope Uzodimma of lmo State has said that he is confident that President Muhammadu Buhari’s responsive initiatives in beefing up the nation’s defence arsenals and reinvigorating the security services would adequately address the challenges. The governor noted that in response to the worries of some stakeholders, including members of the National Assembly over worsening security situation in the country, President Buhari took quick steps to reinvigorate the security services through procurement of modern arms and enhanced welfare for the troops, just as he announced plans to employ more men for the Armed Forces.

A dividend is a reward for investment. It is the sum of money that a corporation pays its shareholders out of its earnings. Democracy is the people’s government. Democracy dividends are the rewards the people get from their government as a result of their investment in that government. Whereas everybody cannot be in power at the same time, it is expected Federal Ministry of Justice that in a democracy, everybody should be in politics. If you are not running for office, you should be able to help determine who runs for office through your vote and your voice. Any person who refuses to participate in a democracy has no right to its dividends. Eternal vigilance is the price to pay for liberty.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has quizzed top management staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), over allegations of various acts of corruption such as diversion of funds, procurement fraud and misappropriation of the agency’s Covid-19 funds. Some directors of NDDC were interrogated at the Commission’s headquarters recently, after months of intelligence gathering, following the receipt of petitions from Nigerians on the alleged illegalities and contracts fraud by some officials of the agency.

The Enugu State Government-owned Community High School, Emene , on the outskirts of Enugu, the state capital, is a quiet environment known for academics. The school, in Enugu East Local Government Area, is also known as a playground for youths, including the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who use the school field to engage in physical exercises. However, Daily Trust on Sunday was informed by some residents of the area that the quietness of the school was practically destroyed on Sunday, August 23, 2020, when blood flowed following shootings between security forces and the youths during which both sides had casualties.

The police in Rivers State have detained a trigger-happy policeman who allegedly shot a 19-year-old youth, Ledisi Kote, in the leg for impregnating a young girl in the Gokana Local Government Area of the state. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Nnamdi Omoni, told our correspondent on Saturday that the indicted cop had been disarmed and detained at the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
