The Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, was again absent from the Federal High Court in Abuja where his trial on N2bn money laundering charges was scheduled to continue on Monday. His absence from court on Monday was the fourth in a row since September 29 when the defendant’s trial was scheduled to resume in the court’s new legal year.

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Olumide Akpata, has set up a task force to secure the release of a 25-year-old lawyer, Abisola ‘Paulette’ Ajayi, who was abducted on Sunday night. Akpata, who made the disclosure in a series of tweets on his handle, said he had also spoken to Rivers Governor Mr. Nyesom Wike; the Attorney-General of Rivers State as well as the state Police Command to request their assistance for Ajayi’s safe return.

Justice Sule Hassan of the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday awarded N20 million damages against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for illegally and unlawfully detaining a former Director of First Bank Plc, Mr. Dauda Lawal. Justice Hassan slammed EFCC for detaining the ex-bank for 44 days without any order of court of competent jurisdiction.

Justice O. A. Obaseki-Osaghae of the National Industrial Court in Lagos has held that ExxonMobil Corporation can be sued in Nigeria. Ruling in the application filed to stop joining of Exxon Mobil Corporation in a suit challenging alleged unlawful retirement of Mr. Paul Arinze from Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, Justice Obaseki-Osaghae held that the corporation is a necessary party to the suit and must be properly joined by the claimant.

The Lagos zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday October 2, 2020, took over a vessel, MV Poseidon alongside 10 crew members after they were arrested on July 20, 2020, by the Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, for investigation and prosecution. The suspects are Umoh Samuel, Abonida Seaman, Ogidigbo Kelly, Ajemfuja Lucky, Gbatemiro Abel, Leke Christian, John Ally, Etem Anthony, Adegoke Adeoye, and Arikaibi.
