The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), on Tuesday appointed Mrs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim as the new Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons.

She replaces Mrs Julie Okah-Donli whose tenure has yet to expire. The new appointment was contained in a statement  by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, titled, ‘President Buhari appoints Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim as Director-General, NAPTIP.’

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry led by Justice Ayo Salami (retired) set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, recently submitted its report. The report was said to have recommended the sack of Magu as chairman of the Commission. The panel also asked President Buhari to appoint a new EFCC chairman in an interim position for two years. It further recommended that the President should look outside the police force in appointing the next chairman of EFCC. In his address, President Buhari reiterated that his administration has kept faith with the fight against corruption and shall remain committed to it until Nigeria triumphs over the evil of corruption.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Tuesday said the Judiciary is on top of the Nigeria Corruption Index between 2018 and 2020. It claimed that about N9, 457,650,000.00 (N9.457 billion) was offered and paid as bribe by lawyers.Six female judges, according to the agency, reported that they were offered N3, 307,444,000.00 (N3.307billion) and five male judges reported N392, 220,000(N392.2million).

Former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrashid Maina, is to be extradited from Niamey, capital of Niger Republic, where he was found hiding. The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) announced this on Tuesday in a statement in Abuja by its spokesman Frank Mba, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The police said they were perfecting the extradition processes to make Maina return to Nigeria to face trial in pending criminal proceedings against him.

N570M FRAUD TRIAL: JUDGE FAULTS FREEZING OYO-ITA, OTHERS ACCOUNTS – PUNCH PG.9, NATION PG.3

Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday expressed displeasure over an order allegedly obtained secretly by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to freeze the bank accounts of some of co-defendants of former Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, with whom she is facing N570m fraud charges. Following protests by the defence lawyers, it turned out to be that the anti-graft agency obtained the interim forfeiture order from another judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Justice Folashade-Giwa, without the knowledge of Justice Taiwo.

Despite his conviction and subsequent demotion by a court-martial in Abuja, the former Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. THE Central Bank of Nigeria has asked Justice Ahmed Mohammed of a Federal High Court in Abuja not to unfreeze the accounts of #EndSARS campaigners because they are still under probe for terrorism financing. The CBN said this in a counter-affidavit in opposition to a motion on notice filed by Gatefield Nigeria Limited, a company that sponsored freelance journalists to cover the #EndSARS protests in October.

The House of Representatives on Tuesday faulted the British House of Commons over its deliberation on the #EndSARS protests in Nigeria, during which a former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, was accused of looting the Central Bank of Nigeria. The House, which exonerated Gowon, carpeted the Conservative Member of Parliament for Tonbridge and Malling, Tom Tugenghat, who is Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee of the House of Commons, for accusing the ex-Head of State of taking half of the CBN with after his regime was toppled in a coup.

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, yesterday set up an enquiry into allegations that the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, (IPPIS,) was riddled with fraud and irregularities, which had led to the none payment of salaries and allowances of Federal Civil Servants. The committee initiated the inquest in the course of engaging tertiary institutions and other agencies on their financial audit reports for 2018-2019.
